Twelve pages! The new issue of the UNIMOG Heft’l sets aside more space than it has in a long time for topics from the regional groups, because many special events have once again been organized there in recent months. These diverse activities, spread across all regions, are what set the club apart. Another highlight will certainly be the upcoming major annual meeting in the Netherlands, for which there’s a final update on the program as well as information on travel arrangements.
Dr. Lars Nebermann, the club’s expert on motorhome conversions, offers helpful tips for anyone who wants to take their Unimog on longer and farther trips. We also feature photos by the acclaimed Swiss art director and photographic artist David Houncheringer, whose Unimog transported his family from Patagonia all the way to the U.S. Angelika Grieb-Erhardt reports on the Club Unimog’s appearances at two major events. And Richard Koch recommends a visit to the special exhibition at the Unimog Museum, where you can marvel at many unique models over the next few months.
In addition to the museum, the Unimog itself is celebrating a milestone birthday this year. To mark the 80th anniversary of this all-purpose vehicle, Daimler Truck has unveiled the “most luxurious Unimog ever.” The concept car—which may end up becoming more than originally intended—is a fitting birthday gift. After all, the Unimog has always been valued not just for testing limits, but for crossing them as well.

EVENTS I ATTENDED
Friedrichshafen Trade Fair, June 12–14, 2026
From June 12–14, we were represented at the Klassikwelt Bodensee in Friedrichshafen. At the joint booth of the Mercedes-Benz brand clubs, we were able to showcase two special exhibits from a club member that really caught people’s attention. Both vehicles, equipped with front-loader buckets and a rear excavator, were very impressive. To ensure there was more to see than just Unigs, we were once again able to set up the ramp in the outdoor area next to the race track and offer test rides to interested visitors. Once again, it was an all-around successful trade show appearance.
20th Anniversary of the Palatinate Regional Group, July 11–12, 2026
The UCG Palatinate Regional Group celebrated its 20th anniversary at its annual meeting in July at the Metz Winery in Meckenheim. During the anniversary event, the Unimogs and their attachments were demonstrated to showcase their versatility. To cool things down, a Metz fire engine sprayed water, creating a more pleasant atmosphere. In this lovely setting, guests were able to enjoy the view of the Palatinate mountains with a glass of wine.
3. Franconian MBtrac and Unimog Meetup in Altenschönbach, July 24–26, 2026
From July 24–26, 2026, the 3rd MB-trac and Unimog Meetup of the RG Franken took place in conjunction with the town festival in Altenschönbach. With perfect weather, both evenings featured spontaneous discussions about Unimogs and other topics that lasted well into the night. The highlight was Saturday’s tour through the Franconian vineyards. Once again, everything was superbly organized—many thanks to Susanne Karp for that. The number of participating vehicles fluctuated constantly; early on Sunday, a group of MB-tracs joined the gathering, representing the full range of this vehicle. All in all, it was a successful event that shows the Franconia Regional Group—revived just two years ago—is thriving—and how!
Youth Event at the Bösen Wolf, July 24–26, 2026
The UCG Youth is gaining momentum! The first meetup took place at the “Böser Wolf” off-road course in Knüllwald-Remsfeld. All UCG members under the age of 30 were invited—whether they had their own vehicle, were coming as a passenger, or were simply interested in the Unimog and MB-trac. Eighteen young people attended. Participants enjoyed a varied weekend filled with fellowship, technology, and plenty of driving fun.
Highlights included:

• Off-road driving school with experienced instructors
• Trail rides
• Free UCG youth T-shirt for all participating UCG members under 30 years of age
The gathering laid the foundation for an active and open community of young Unimog and MB-trac enthusiasts. In addition to group outings and gatherings, technical workshops and other events are also planned for the future.

Unimog Meets G-Class 2.0, June 5, 2026
On September 5 and 6, there will be a second gathering of the legendary Unimog and the iconic Mercedes-Benz G-Class, which promises to be even bigger and more spectacular than the previous event. This year, for the first time, recovery courses will be offered in Ötigheim, among other activities, with many more surprises to come. All the details here

11-13.09.2026 Annual meeting Wilbertoord, Holland
Cross-Border Commuters in Piedmont: A Visit to the Unimog Club Italy
Once a year, the Unimog Club Italy invites members to its traditional annual outing—an invitation that several club members were happy to accept at the end of June. The town of Oulx in the upper Susa Valley (Piedmont) served as the base camp for the long weekend. A practical bonus: A local forestry fair was taking place on the grounds at the same time, which provided some variety right from the start.
Saturday, June 27: In the “Mondberge”
The driving program kicked off on Saturday with a tour of the Monti della Luna. This alpine region in the province of Turin truly lives up to its name: The landscape is characterized by light-colored rock and barren formations that strongly resemble the surface of the moon. The challenging mountain trails provided the perfect setting to put our vehicles’ off-road capabilities to the test and rewarded participants with breathtaking panoramic views.
Sunday, June 28: History of Technology at Fort Bramafam
Sunday morning was all about history. Our destination was Forte Bramafam, a fortification once built by Italy to secure the strategically important Fréjus Tunnel against France. As the motto reads: “Dei Sacri Confini Guardia Sicura”—in English: “The Secure Guard of the Sacred Borders.” Fortunately, the fortress was never put to use.
The guided tour vividly illustrated just how rapidly military technology advanced at the end of the 19th century: No sooner had the fortress been completed than it was already technically obsolete due to the invention of more modern artillery and more powerful ammunition. Today, the complex houses a detailed and fascinating collection of historical uniforms, weapons, and military artifacts.
We also saw a great example of Italian ingenuity here. A unique exhibit. Not a Unimog, but still very interesting.
Monday, June 29: The finale on the Assietta
Although the official event ended on Sunday, a special activity awaited the remaining crews on Monday. Together, they tackled a short section of the famous Strada dell’Assietta. The unpaved, high-alpine military road certainly demanded some skill from the vehicles and drivers on its gravel sections and once again offered off-road driving in its purest form.
In addition, we were able to recruit three new club members.
Conclusion
We’ve just returned from a superbly organized trip with the Italian Unimog enthusiasts. Beyond the scenery, the regional culinary specialties, and the camaraderie, one thing stands out above all else: A tour like this on unpaved, high-alpine trails is not feasible in this form in either Germany or Switzerland. A heartfelt thank you goes to Alessandro, Fabio, and their crew for this wonderful weekend.

Experience Dutch hospitality: That’s what the 2026 annual meeting of the Unimog Club Gaggenau is all about on the weekend of September 11 to 13. This is made possible by the partnership between the UCG and De Peeltuhers, a club for historic tractors. Together we are organizing the event “Wilbertoord Pakt Uut 2026”. Whether you are a member or not (yet) a member: all MB-trac and Unimog fans are cordially invited to Wilbertoord. The town is located in the southeast of the Netherlands in the province of Noordbrabant, less than 40 kilometers from the German border.
Program
A unique Unimog and MB-trac world of experience is on offer. You can look forward to a Unimog museum with many vehicles on display. There will be action on the demonstration area and spare parts can be found at the stands of numerous dealers.
But Wilbertoord Pakt Uut offers much more – and above all a program for every age group. In addition to MB-trac and Unimog, historic vehicles of other makes will be on display. There will be exciting competitions such as Hobby Pulling & Cross, in which tractors have to pull a heavy brake van. Regional products will be on sale at a trade market.
Whether rock, pop or brass band music: bands play live on various stages. Three festival evenings are also planned. On Friday, dirndls and lederhosen are expressly encouraged, as German classics from the 80s and 90s will be played. On Saturday, cover bands from the surrounding villages provide live music to ensure a good atmosphere. On Sunday, there will be more party music to round off the day. Children can let off steam on Hüpsurgen and test quad bikes. On Sunday morning there is a church service in the marquee. A hot air balloon festival is planned for the finale on Sunday evening.
Catering & overnight stay
Food and drinks will be provided on the festival grounds: a team of volunteers will provide a wide variety of food. In addition, the UCG will also offer breakfast, lunch and dinner separately. All details can be found on the registration form. Only on Thursday evening and Monday morning will you have to resort to the cafés and restaurants in the surrounding villages.
If you want to arrive earlier or extend your stay, there are numerous campsites in the area. Directly in Wilbertoord are the Boerderijcamping run by the Gieben farming family (www.boerderijcampinggieben.nl) as well as Camping Boszicht (www.campingboszicht.nl) and Minicamping ‘t Amans(www.amans.nl).
Excursions & round trip
A 40-kilometre tour of the region is being organized for Saturday. There are three departures spread out over the day; registration takes place on site. Along the route there will be a refreshment stop with food (hamburgers) and drinks. There are also many excursion destinations in the vicinity of Wilbertoord. It is only 19 kilometers to the Overloon War Museum (www.oorlogsmuseum.nl) and 14 kilometers to the historic fortified town of Grave (www.visitlandvancuijk. com). The Sporen van de Oorlog and De Kuilen areas are ideal for hiking. Destinations for children are the amusement parks De Bergen (www.avonturenparkdebergen.nl) and Billy-Bird Hemelrijk (www.billybird.nl) as well as the zoos in Overloon (www.zooparc.nl) and Uden (www.dierenparkziezoo.nl). Pure relaxation is offered by a wellness boat with 41 sauna and spa areas (www.wellnesshotelbrabant.nl).

The fairground is open from Thursday, September 10, 5:00 pm to Monday, September 14, 10:00 am. The site will close at 22:00 in the evening. There are plenty of showers and toilets on the site as well as a disposal station for chemical toilets. Groups can set up together on the site, but should register this in good time by e-mail (john.vandijk@unimog-club-gaggenau.de). There is a petrol station (De Haan, Millseweg 25) and a supermarket (Albert Heijn, Lepelstraat 1) in the neighboring village of Wanroij.
The Netherlands is planning to introduce a truck toll on July 1. Motorhomes of the “camper van (SA)” type that are registered outside the Netherlands are generally not subject to the toll. Vehicles that are both older than 40 years and used exclusively for private purposes are also exempt from the toll. If both conditions are met, such a vehicle only needs to be registered online in advance for exemption.
All other vehicles in categories N2 and N3 (trucks with a technically permissible maximum mass of more than 3.5 tons) are subject to tolls. Therefore, a toll device from a Dutch or European provider must be present in the vehicle and switched on, regardless of whether toll roads are actually used. However, it is possible to cross the German-Dutch border from Goch without using toll roads via the route N291 => N271 => N264.

This issue 130 of the UNIMOG magazine once again shows the diverse commitment of the members. John and Jordy van Dijk from the Netherlands and Klaus Lukas from the Board of Directors provide an update on the upcoming annual meeting in September. How to make planning easier for the organization team? “Register in good time – preferably immediately!” It should be easy to fulfill this wish: After all, the program in Wilbertoord is so varied that even a long journey is worthwhile for the weekend (perhaps combined with a short break). Will it even be possible to set a new visitor record in 2026, the Unimog’s 80th birthday?
On the way (or alternatively for an excursion to take the Unimog out for a “species-appropriate” drive), a stop at an off-road park is a good idea: Jürgen Rüger has gone to the trouble of scouting out ten places for off-road driving where you are welcome with your own vehicle. Wouldn’t that be something for a ride with people from the regional group?
Anyone who likes to do their own work and wants to optimize their vehicle powered by an OM 636 engine should read Markus Hame’s article carefully. He shares his know-how for the Unimog 411 and gives tips on how to replace the vacuum-regulated injection pump with one with a centrifugal governor.
Werner Vögele reports on how one of the rare Unimog 404 S with a diesel engine embarked on its last journey (for the time being?) to a new home. The vehicle had once spent a whole decade on the road in Africa and Arabia. In this interview, ScaleART’s boss (and UCG member) Bernd Brand tells us how much effort went into developing his MB-trac and Unimog. There is also a new overview of highlights from the club store: Why not shop for clothing and accessories there and show your support for the UCG?

We clear the way
About 75 years ago, engineer Alfred Schmidt Jr. developed the first snow plow for the Unimog. Whether on Alpine passes or elsewhere in the world,
this combination has been removing snow ever since. From the early Boehringer 70200 to modern implement carriers, tens of thousands of Unimog have been equipped with Schmidt winter service technology. As a supplement to the detailed article in UNIMOG Heft’l issue 129 (December 2025), we present a video on the topic of “100 years of Schmidt” as well as some additional photos from the company’s history.

Life support campaign
As in previous years, we once again organized an excursion for the residents of the Lebenshilfe facility this year. With seven vehicles, a total of ten passengers could be transported on each tour. This meant that a total of 20 residents had the opportunity to explore their home with the Unimog on two tours.
Pasture festival in Gersbach
On 28.09.2025, the Hochrhein/South Black Forest regional group organized a pasture festival in Gersbach for the benefit of children with cancer. Our Club Unimog and the Club Shop were there.

Four days of Unimog spectacle: in June, around 450 vehicles from all over Germany and neighboring countries came to the annual meeting of the Gaggenau Unimog Club. The event was hosted by the Göppingen-Stauferland regional group, which organized the meeting with commitment, passion and active support from the UCG board.
The good weather contributed to the great atmosphere: People talked shop, took photos, drove and laughed together everywhere. Many participants took part in guided tours with their Unimogs. Others came together for group photos, like more than a dozen vehicles from the 408/418 series.
A highlight for visitors (in the truest sense of the word) was the opportunity to ride along the ramp in the Club Unimog U 5023.
Claudio Lazzarini’s demonstration was also exciting. With his “Dieselì”, he showed how the Swiss army once laid telephone lines. A well-stocked parts market complemented the technology program, and the children were thrilled by the hands-on activities.
So it’s best to make a note of the date for 2026 now: The next annual meeting will take place from September 11 to 13, 2026 in Wilbertoord in the Netherlands.

Regional representatives’ meeting
In June, over 60 volunteers met to take part in the regional representatives’ conference.
New volunteers in the Upper Bavaria, Hamburg-Schwerin and Schleswig-Holstein regional groups
We are pleased to welcome new officers to the above-mentioned regional groups. Thomas Zedelmayr and Hans-Joachim Meyer have resigned from their positions in Upper Bavaria. There have also been changes in the far north. Anna Meier (Hamburg-Schwerin) and Jana Rudolph (Schleswig-Holstein) have stepped down.

Parts market and general meeting
Once again this year, we were able to welcome many members to the above events. A number of items were bought and sold at the parts market and a report on the past year was given at the general meeting. Elections were also held. A detailed report including photos will appear in the next issue.
Annual meeting Römerstein
This year’s annual meeting in Römerstein was a complete success. Over 500 Unimogs from near and far attended. The organizing regional group Göppingen/Stauferland had prepared everything well and the weather gods also played along. The small village and its surroundings were made unsafe by the Unimog fans. A detailed report including photos will appear in the next issue.
Annual meeting RG Palatinate
The Palatinate regional group has found a new location for its annual meeting – in the vineyards, as befits the Palatinate. The Metz vineyard in Meckenheim was the perfect place for this event. Many Unimog friends had been waiting for this event and then took advantage of it. The preparation by our two regional representatives, Erik Engel and Stefan Jung, was a success. Numerous possible applications with the Unimog were demonstrated on the action area and the dealer mile, with our club store, was also interesting and was actively used. The disco in the evening rounded off the day’s program. We are looking forward to next year.
Exit Austria-East
This year, the regional group in Austria East hosted its meeting in Prottes near Vienna.
UVC annual meeting
This year’s annual meeting of the Unimog Veterans Club took place in Hattert in the Westerwald. A small delegation from the Unimog Club was there with the Club Unimog.

Following the successful MB-trac meeting in the anniversary year 2023, the Unimog Museum will once again be hosting a three-day meeting for the fascinating cult tractor from October 3 to 5 this year.

At this beautiful meeting in Valpolicella, some German and Swiss Unimogs were represented alongside the Italian ones. Among them was Christoph / Optimog, who drove over 700 km in his 411. Camping was possible on the grounds of a motorcycle trial track.
The participants were allowed to take part in a wine tasting, which was of course visited by coach. Villa Benedetti has an excavation of a Roman villa on its grounds, which was visited.
In addition to the beautiful drive with special permission over the hills of Valpolicella to a refuge, the participants were able to visit a fort that was supposed to protect the Veronese from the Austro-Hungarians.
Once again it was a very successful trip. Enclosed you can see the pictures of Guido Meurer.

Mourning
We were saddened to learn of the death of Hans-Jürgen Wischhof, member number 1 of the Unimog Club Gaggenau and committed supporter of the Unimog Museum. His contribution to the community and his passion for the Unimog will be remembered by us all. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. We will continue to honor his legacy and appreciate his impact on the club and the museum.
The funeral service will take place on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. in the Evangelical Lutheran Johanniskirche in 76530 Baden-Baden, Gausplatz/Bertholdstraße 5.

Motions in accordance with Section 9 (10) of the Articles of Association: Additions to the agenda must be received by the office in text form no later than three weeks before June 14, 2025. In accordance with the statutory provisions, the deadline ends on Friday, April 23, 2025. Additions to the agenda will be published on the homepage at least 14 days before the General Meeting.
Digital Club Card
As of this year, the membership card is only available in digital form. You can find instructions on how to create your membership card here.
It is important to note that this must also be downloaded again each year in digital form so that it remains up to date. The validity always ends on December 31 and can be extended independently by you in just a few seconds. Reminder: It is best to repeat the process in January if you have already created the Club Card this year.
Unimog information system
Do you already know our UIS? Here you will find all service information and historical data on all Unimog model series from their origins to the present day. You can find this type history on our homepage and in the member area. You will need your Club Card ID (on the back of your Club Card) and a password. If you have never logged in before, you can request a new password from the office. Simply send an e-mail to info@unimog-club-gaggenau.de.
Task Force
On the initiative of Rainer Hildebrandt, the Unimog Club Gaggenau and Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks have founded a task force. The aim: to be able to provide assistance in emergency situations throughout Europe within a few days using specially equipped vehicles. Following the appeal in the last newsletter, 80 volunteers came forward and have already been “trained” over two days in the gravel pit.

Mercedes-Benz Special Trucks provided the Unimog and Actros as well as the site. The Unimog Club organized instructors (driving instructors) who gave driving lessons to the volunteers. Karl Leib was also on hand to provide explanations about the vehicle’s technology and Rainer Hildebrandt and Michael Steinbock presented the concept and showed how things will continue.

Bremen Trade Fair
Our trade fair kick-off took place in Bremen. The Unimog Club had two Unimogs on display in the exhibition area for 3 days. We would like to thank Gerd Wetzel and his team for the organization and implementation.

Hinweise
Gemäß §9 Abs. 3 der Satzung erfolgt die Einberufung durch den Vorstand mit einer Frist von sechs Wochen durch Veröffentlichung der Einladung auf der Homepage https://unimog-club-gaggenau.de. Die Frist beginnt mit dem auf die Veröffentlichung folgenden Tag und endet am Donnerstag, 01. Mai 2025. Mit der Veröffentlichung der Einladung am 01. März 2025 ist die Frist eingehalten.
Stimmberechtigt sind Mitglieder ab dem 16. Lebensjahr (Satzung § 7 Abs 1), welche zum Zeitpunkt der Mitgliederversammlung seit mindestens drei Monaten Mitglied des Vereins sind (Satzung § 4 Abs. 2) Anträge gemäss §9 Abs. 10 der Satzung: Ergänzungen zur Tagesordnung müssen bis spätestens drei Wochen vor dem 14.Juni 2025 in Textform bei der Geschäftsstelle des Vereins eingehen. Die Frist endet gemäß den gesetzlichen Bestimmungen am Freitag, den 23. Mai 2025. Ergänzungen zur Tagesordnung werden spätestens 14 Tage vor der Mitgliederversammlung auf der Homepage bekanntgegeben.
Bitte bringen Sie zur leichteren Identifikation Ihren Personalausweis, respektive den aktuellen entsprechenden QR-Code (digitaler Mitgliedsausweis) zur Hauptversammlung mit!
